even in your 2nd image to the right is the way the traffic should follow. The arrows on the roads show which lanes can travel in which direction, so why isn't traffic following these?.Ĭars should be able to navigate traffic just as you and i could do. lets say 50% is going right, and 50% are going straight, if they were in the appropriate lanes that would cut that traffic right there in half. Plain and simple, if there are 2 simple lanes going in the same direction and come to an intersection where you can make a right or go straight, cars that are going straight should not be trapped in the right lane when the left lane is wide open and can continue going straight(causing unnecessary residue back ups). how is that the way traffic works?.Īnd, exactly, the traffic is thinking like a GPS/PC, not like real life people living in a real life city which that is what the game is suppose to be. In my 1 example i explained how cars were making right turns from a one way 6 lane road from the far left lane. and thanks for the guides you'd mentioned, I'll be sure to put them to use. Thank you for your help, i appreciated it. It lets more cars flow through the intersection at the top, while it doesn't mess with highway traffic. It's often better to have one lane off ramp come off and then have it flow into one with more lanes. Here it isn't a good idea to how 2-3 lanes coming off, since that moves the traffic on the highway to the outer lanes. The second shows how you can handle lots of traffic coming off highways. It also shows how a 6 lane road won't solve any problems as most of the middle lanes are wasted. While it might not look the prettiest, it is efficient.
The first one shows where cars will go and how to force turn lanes without mods. Lastly I'll leave you with some pictures. Often it's better to have one smaller road come off a large one and then fork into several, than having all the smaller roads connected to the large one. Besides those it's worth keeping in mind that many intersections near each other slows down traffic a lot, so try and space them out - especially on roads that have a lot of traffic. They're made for the Steam version ofc, but since they are written for the game without DLCs or mods, they will have a lot of useful information for you too. I really recommend checking out this guide and this one. Using different sizes of roads and road hierachy as well as planning out where high traffic areas will be helps a lot. In many cases more lanes won't solve your traffic problems. While in the real world we go in the outer lanes when there's a lot of cars in the inner one, the game's cars will stick to the inner one, because it leads to where they're going. All cars pick a route like there's no traffic, which is why you see them in the same lane. When the route is selected, it only looks at roads available and speed limits. It doesn't tell you to switch lanes randomly, only when you need to. Think of it like when you put start and destination into a GPS or on Google Maps. This isn't a bug, this is how traffic work. why do they wait for lights to change green? Its like that everywhere in all situationsĪlso emergency vehicles don't have right of way(?). I have a 6 lane one direction round-about, traffic enters the round-about into the 2nd lane only to make the following right turn into the 2nd lane, blocking other traffic that is also using that lane to exit the round-about after that roadway, which is being blocked by traffic using only 1 lane. and to top it off, where they were trying to make that left turn into a 6 lane 2 way road, cars were making right turns(?). and a little ways back it was 2 lanes trying to merge into that left lane. I even had 6 lane roadway(one way in each direction) going from highway entering my city, straight thru my city to another highway on the other side of my city, where all the traffic used the left lane. it causes unnecessary residual back ups everywhere. have traffic utilize all lanes for the direction they are going in. No matter if you have 1 lane roadway or a 6 lane roadway going in one direction, traffic defaults to one lane.
